News

Busselton business recognised with awards: Geographe Holiday Homes achieved recognition by winning a Regional Business Excellence Award, and two other local Busselton businesses were named as finalists for a State award.

Busselton to host NAIDOC Netball Carnival: The city of Busselton is scheduled to host the Netball WA NAIDOC Carnival, which will bring together netball teams from across the South West, Peel, and Great Southern regions.

SummerSalt music festival held at Barnard Park: The SummerSalt music festival took place at Barnard Park on the Busselton Foreshore, featuring performances by a line-up of various Australian artists.

Anzac Day commemorations planned: Plans are underway and announcements made for Anzac Day services to be held in both Busselton and Dunsborough on April 25.

Young Busselton swimmer achieves State success: Aidan Fisher, a 10-year-old swimmer from Busselton, was celebrated for his achievements at the WA Junior Championships in Perth, where he won an impressive total of 12 medals, including seven gold medals.

New chocolate shop opens on the foreshore: A new retail establishment, named 'Little Ottos' chocolate shop, opened its doors on the Busselton foreshore.

Dunsborough Bay Yacht Club hosts record regatta: The Dunsborough Bay Yacht Club held its largest-ever Bay Regatta, with the participation of over 50 boats. This sporting event on the water drew significant community involvement and attention in Dunsborough.

Government Corner

City of Busselton Updates

  • The City of Busselton held an Ordinary Council Meeting on April 23. These meetings are the primary forum for local government decision-making. The meeting commenced at 5:30pm and was live-streamed.

  • A public consultation period is open for the readvertised draft Local Planning Policy 4.1 - Unhosted Short-Term Rental Accommodation (STRA) until April 30. This policy addresses short-term rentals in the area and seeks community feedback.

  • The Dunsborough Lakes Sporting Precinct is closed for the installation of stadium lighting from April 16 to May 9.

  • The City of Busselton issued a notice on April 8 regarding the ongoing rural road verge maintenance program by City crews over the next couple of months to ensure roadside safety.

State Government Initiatives

  • WA Health issued a measles alert that was active from April 19 onwards for the South West region, which includes Busselton and Dunsborough. Residents and visitors were advised to be vigilant for symptoms following the identification of cases in the broader region.

  • The Bussell Highway Duplication project, managed by Main Roads WA, is ongoing. During April, the project involved the progressive opening of southbound carriageway sections between Capel and Busselton, with associated traffic management and potential delays.

  • Busselton Water has its 2025 Community Partnership Program open until May 14, offering grants for local projects related to water efficiency, environment, education, and community. Their biennial Customer Survey is also open until May 14, seeking public feedback.
